WHY WOULD YOU NEED AN EDITOR?

First of all, huge congratulations, on producing your manuscript! As a published author, I know the journey. Understanding the different kinds of editing will help you to decide what your work requires.

-
A DEVELOPMENTAL OR STRUCTURAL EDITOR concentrates on the big picture, focusing on plot, characters, theme, point of view etc. If you need a sounding board while writing, or someone to test your first draft, this is what you need. This is also known as Manuscript Assessment.

-
A LINE EDITOR looks for awkward phrasing, repetition, writing style, voice, and inconsistencies. If your draft is structurally sound, line editing can further tweak your work.
-
A COPY EDITOR corrects spelling, grammar, and punctuation, ensuring consistency throughout, and addressing commonly confused words. Once your draft is working, and you are happy with your prose, copy editing will further polish it.
-
A PROOF READER makes sure everything is as error-free as possible, before going to print. It's a very important step, which is sometimes overlooked. There can still be typos and page number problems at this stage.

So, it's important to have that extra pair of well-trained eyes, and the overall experience an editor can bring to turning your manuscript into a beautiful production.

TESTIMONIALS
Wow, Sue! This is exciting! Thank you so much for your help with my manuscript, I really am very pleased with your work. You’ve been so thorough and considerate... I’ve really enjoyed the correspondence with you over the last few weeks. You’ve been so much better than I imagined an editor being – I thought you might’ve been dry and a bit indifferent to the story itself, so I’m glad that wasn’t the case haha! Seriously, I wouldn’t rather have had any other editor.

Much thanks to my editor, Susan Scott who always had something positive to say, which reinstated my sometimes flagging belief in my story telling abilities.
